How are China’s immigration procedures changing?

Starting 20 November 2025, foreign nationals entering China can submit their arrival card electronically instead of using paper forms. This is a major improvement that reduces airport processing time and streamlines immigration procedures.

Travelers can complete the declaration before their flight using a smartphone or computer, or upon arrival by scanning a QR code.

 💡 Tip: It is recommended to complete the form before departure to avoid queues at busy arrival airports in China. 

What information do you need to prepare?

Before filling out the arrival card, ensure you have:

  • A valid passport
  • Flight information (flight number, date and time of arrival)
  • Accommodation address in China (hotel or private residence)
  • Purpose of entry: tourism, business, study, transit, etc.
  • Email or phone number for contact

Once completed, the system will display a confirmation page or QR code.

Who must complete the Digital Arrival Card?

All foreign passport holders entering China

  • A new form must be submitted each time you enter the country
  • Children are also required to submit their own form

Certain special categories (e.g., passengers in transit without entering China) may receive separate guidance at the airport.

  • Fill out the arrival card online before your flight
  • Save/screenshot the confirmation QR code
  • Upon arrival → present your passport + QR code/confirmation screen
  • Follow instructions from immigration officers

The electronic arrival declaration effective from 20 November 2025 will significantly reduce waiting time at border control, while enhancing transparency and modernization in China’s immigration process.
